On Richard Hunt ( GA <> AG )
This text was originally posted in response to other posts on a list so may be a bit out of context, as these comments are response to others on a list. But someone reposted these comments to my annoyance on another BB anyway, so I put them here to be picked up in search here instead.

Green Anarchist did not oust Richard Hunt for being pro - fascist in 1990. Hunt resigned (GA. 29) from GA because of P N Rogers and Kevins refusal to apologise for his opposition to his position on the Gulf War (support our boys) (GA No. 28), this position while reactionary is not fascist and GA did not claim so, (e.g. It was position of the Labour Party, which while counter revolutionary is not Fascist). What makes Ricahrd Hunt far-right are views that he has held since he began writing politically in 1970's. Others members of Green Anarchist worked along side him for many years.

Richard Hunt made overtures to right wing groups/mags/individuals with a lineage to traditional far right only later after he begun publishing Alternative Green, as far as I know. e.g. Perspectives mag which became Radical Shift which has now merged with Alternative Green.

This is the first I have heard of Ricahrd Hunt having involvment with Freedom (I assume you mean the anarchist fortnightly from angel ally, not various right wing publications, incidently the newspaper of the BNP is now called Freedom, and magazine Idenity). Richard Hunt certainly feel out with Freedom after they refused to stock his stuff circa 1994, he picket the Freedom bookshop , with Freedom Lies flyers. Martin, Could you provide referances for Richard Hunt articles in Freedom?

People can examine copies of Green Anarchist (as well as Lancaster Bomber) on microfich at many Central Libraries in UK at least, the collection is call 'UK Alternative Press' (or something like that, I will check next time in library and get back if wrong). PNR decribes the Hunt saga in his pamphlet Green Anarchism: it's Origins and Influences.

Also Martin, you say 'current pair of editors'. This is confusing. As far as I know just PNR had the editorship after Hunt stepped down to write his book: To End Poverty. There were other people involved with GA at that time e.g. a Jeff Peirce who is mention in News of the World (17/6/90) but it is only PNR that has retained sole editorship untill now. Though I believe the second you are thinking of is Steve Booth who edits Lancaster Bomber (issue 1 in 1992), and contributes to GA. His only contribution, I believe, to GA before Hunt split was a letter in GA27. His cartoons started appearing GA 29.

GA have some of their stuff on their website at:

http://website.lineone.net/~grandlaf/

but when I last looked they did not have the Irrationalist series of articles, by Steve Booth. In answer to critiques of his statements on the anti-semitic Aum, Steve Booth says 'This is not about ideology but about which methods of activity will be effective' (GA No 57 - 58 page 15). Steve Booth asks 'Why do the anarcho-conformists defend the passive mass?'. Later saying 'ACE and others are so very upset about Aum Shin Rikyo. Commuters and city of London financial sector components, dedicated to turning the wheels of capitalism, rushing to work on the Underground.' 'Taxpayers one and all. How just and proportionate that they should breathe sarin.'

I trust whether you view Green Anarchist as fascist or not, you agree it is a problem, even if you don't believe that problem is far right contamintion of the revolutionary movement. I believe the mass's passitivity is wisdom not to be drawn into battles that will be lost. I am happy to be with the mass. I am happy to defend the mass from attack.
